A piece of history
Schoenen Pantas is not just any shoe store; it has a whole history attached to it.
The story begins in the 1920s, when the great-grandmother of the youngest generation sold clogs in her shop in Kerksken.
Later, her son, Gaston De Luyck, as a young man in his twenties in the late 1930s, started selling slippers to shops throughout Belgium. He set out on his bicycle, even as far as Limburg, to sell his slippers.
Gradually, he became more and more interested in their production, and in the 1940s, he started his own slipper factory in Terjoden. Thousands of slippers were manufactured there and sold in every corner of Belgium and even the Netherlands. In its peak years, the factory employed more than 60 people. Soon, people from the neighborhood came knocking to buy slippers and shoes directly from the factory. This gave rise to the idea of starting their own retail outlets, and the store in Aalst is the result: Schoenen Panta was born in the late 1950s.
Because there was still a lot of work to be done at the factory, sales in the store were left to a manager.
From the 1980s onwards, André and Simone, Gaston's children, took full control of the store's operations. Schoenen Panta then offered a wide range of slippers and shoes for women, men, and children.
Gradually, specialization became necessary, and eventually, in 2010, Schoenen Panta became a shoe store specializing in fashionable comfort for women and men.
2013 was a pivotal year. André retired, and Elisabeth, Simone's daughter, chose to join the business.
Mother and daughter decided to move to larger premises. This makes it possible to offer a wider collection and allows customers to choose and try on shoes in peace. A new concept calls for a new name. To maintain the link to the former store, PantaS was chosen, where the 'S' for Simone reflects the renewal.
In March 2013, the completely renovated store opened in the current historic building at the top of Molenstraat (the building dates back to 1867), and Anne joined the Pantas shoe team.
There is now a wide selection of women's shoes and, to a more limited extent, for men, with the emphasis still on fashion and comfort.
