OUR HISTORY

With over a century of experience and tradition, Shoemakers has evolved over time. Today, the group has two proprietary brands, Pom d'Api and Shoo Pom, and two shoe licenses, Tartine et Chocolat Souliers and Bonton Shoes.

The group has developed by paying close attention to every detail of the production process and by conducting relentless research to offer models of the highest quality season after season.

Thanks to Shoemakers' passion and creativity, it is the last French manufacturer and distributor of children's shoes and one of the most internationally recognized brands in this field. 1970 - THE POM D'API SANDAL, AN ICON SINCE 1970

One hundred years after Jean-Baptiste Rautureau, an artisan shoemaker based in the village of La Gaubretière in the Vendée, his great-grandsons, the brothers Yvon and Guy Rautureau, joined the company ERG (Etablissement Rautureau Gaubretière) and transformed it into an innovative, high-performance company, capable of distinguishing itself through both production expertise and original designs, such as this emblematic sandal made in 1970.

This was the first Pom d'Api sandal built using a traditional assembly method, which we still use today for our Plagette line. 1973 - THE BIRTH OF POM D'API

Driven by the desire to fully express their creativity, the two brothers decided to develop a children's line, and thus Pom d'Api was born. The round, cheerful name refers to the famous French nursery rhyme "Pomme de reinette et pomme d'api" (Reinette Apple and Monkey Apple).

The apple became the emblem of their creations, which were immediately recognized by shoe professionals for their quality and originality.

1976 - POM D'API REWARDED FOR ITS CREATIVITY

Pom d'Api is known for the originality of its designs and received the Oscar for Creativity in Milan in 1976. The award marked a turning point: retailers and designers discovered the unique world of the apple brand, where innovation and poetry meet. Pom d'Api quickly became a household name in France and beyond. 1980 - THE RISE OF POM D'API

In the early 1980s, Pom d'Api opened its first store in the heart of Paris, followed by other openings in the provinces and abroad. Building on its success, the brand has become a reference in the world of children's shoes.

2013 - THE BIRTH OF SHOO POM

In 2013, the Shoemakers group created Shoo Pom, a brand that combines style, comfort, and accessibility. For over 10 years, our teams have been inspired by the creative world of children to design models in their favorite image: colorful, fun, and sparkling.

Designed to accompany children on their daily adventures, every collection contains shoes they love to wear. Every step is a discovery, and every shoe is a unique playmate. 2016 - SHOEMAKERS, A NEW ENTITY DEDICATED TO CHILDREN

In 2016, the children's division of Rautureau, with the brands Pom d'Api and Shoo Pom, became independent from the adult brands. The children's division then became the Shoemakers Group, a shoe company specializing in children's footwear.

The headquarters is located in Chambretaud, in the Vendée, not far from the historical site, in order to preserve the company's values. The group has its own design studio, where pattern makers and modelers design new models based on expertise passed down from generation to generation.

2023 - POM D'API, 50 YEARS OF CREATION

To celebrate this occasion, Pom d'Api unveils an exclusive collection in which the iconic models are revisited. The Billy Papy model has been given a vintage, colorful twist, while top-class leather has been used for the Plagette Strap and Waff Papy sandals. These reissues reflect the Pom d'Api heritage of high-quality baby and children's shoes, designed with care and true to the brand's expertise.

2024 - THE TARTINE ET CHOCOLAT SOULIERS LICENSE

In the winter of 2024, Tartine et Chocolat and Shoemakers are launching a licensed shoe collection called Tartine et Chocolat Souliers. The collection is both modern and authentic, featuring clean lines and classic colors suitable for every stage of life, from first steps to junior. The essence of Tartine et Chocolat can be found in the timeless designs and refined details.

2024 - THE BONTON SHOES LICENSE

In the spring of 2025, Bonton and Shoemakers are launching a licensed shoe collection: Bonton Shoes. These shoes offer comfort and quality, respecting Bonton's DNA: its creative, colorful world, resolutely focused on children. The shared ambition of the two brands is to dress children and put on shoes every day with a complete wardrobe that accompanies them on all their adventures.
